The Final Countdown

With April break just over a week away the ski season is coming to a close but our last days promise lots of action still to come. Carl, TK, and Brian have some biathlon races on tap, Rena is looking forward to a 30k skate race in Craftsbury, and hopefully the team will have good representation at the Cochran’s Ski Cross event the first weekend in April.

With the fresh snow we’ve gotten to explore some trails at Rikert that haven’t had much coverage this year, including the trail that goes up to their new cabin. The cabin is gorgeous from the outside…here’s Margo looking for an open window to peak in. She didn’t find one so the suspense continues….

A beautiful morning of classic skiing at Rikert after Stella dumped fresh powder on us.

Carl, Brian and TK (L to R) training at the Ethan Allen Biathlon Range in preparation for US Nationals.

Last weekend GMVSxc had great representation at the Eastern High School Championships, hosted by Mountain Top Inn & Resort in Chittenden, VT. Mountain Top lucked out with the weather leading up to the event, collecting enough snow from winter storm Stella to put together spectacular skiing at their picturesque venue. For those who haven’t been, the resort sits high in the mountains with great views from the fields that are the start of the nordic trails and act as the stadium when they host races. It’s gorgeous!

Elliot and Rena each took their respective overall titles after the three individual events (a 5k skate, a 7.5k mass start classic and a skate sprint) were completed. The boys had an exceptionally strong weekend with Greg, Walker and Nick all finishing in the top ten overall as well! Team Vermont kept the winning streak alive, beating out second place (Team NH) for top team honors on the weekend. Full results can be found here.
